What’s The Most Incredible Coincidence That Ever Happened To You?

I got married to a wonderful man, Kyle, for 32.5 years before losing him to brain cancer. A true storybook romance that eventually includes three amazing sons, a vacation home near a beautiful lake & boat. Our favorite family activity was boating on our gorgeous Dale Hollow Lake.

I met Danny online (never say never, & thanks Doug & Kristi) two years after losing my dear Kyle. Our first date was five hours long. Needless to say, we hit it off from the beginning.

On our second date, he asked me to talk about Kyle. He wanted to “get to know him” because he knew that was a huge part of getting to know me. A few tears were shed & he told me he knew I would always love Kyle, & hold him in my heart. He just hoped there was a little bit of room left. I was touched & right then knew he was special.

In the back of my mind, I did wonder WHAT Kyle would think of Danny.

Well, I believe he knows & approves. I have a rather incredible anchor story- so here it goes…

For our 25th silver anniversary, I gave Kyle a Tiffany key ring with an anchor. After he passed I got my first real tattoo, an anchor. I painted my first painting … An anchor, & began accumulating a few other anchors. They reminded me of Kyle, my anchor for over 33 years, & all our happy memories of times spent boating. I love the bible verse, Hebrews 6:19. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul…

Now the second part of the story:

Several years ago, a group of young men got our boat anchor caught on the bottom of Dale Hollow. After calling Kyle, they took his advice & cut the rope, leaving the anchor. Now, this lake covers almost 28,000 acres and is up to 130 deep.

Fast forward to Danny’s first Memorial weekend at Dale Hollow Lake, nineteen people, two boats… We drop anchor and lounge all day. At the end of the day, Danny goes to the front of the boat to begin pulling up the anchor. He quickly announces we had hooked something big and keeps pulling. Yep, you guessed it, there was our anchor! 18 witnesses! We couldn’t drop an anchor & pull up another if we knew exactly where it was & tried a million times. To pull that up so randomly was… Well in my opinion, divine.

Never a dry eye when I share this story.

I’m lucky to feel love again & luckier still to have such confirmation from above that it’s ok.

I liken my feelings to (and any parent will understand this). After you have your first baby, you think your heart is so full it might explode. Then you expect another & wonder, even worry that you can’t possibly love this new baby. But you do. Maybe differently somehow. But oh how you do find room to love the new babe.

I will always, always love, & never forget Kyle.

He was the love of my life. Yes, my heart holds him close & still aches for him. But as Danny hoped all those months ago, there is some room left. Danny knows that he shares my heart. He is ok with that. Danny holds me when I cry for Kyle. He cries with me on those tough days, in those sad moments. Danny is my Sunshine after the darkest storm imaginable. I am loved – I am lucky – I am thankful for the Sunny days ahead.

Finally, Danny & I were married on his birthday, 2–22–22, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with 45 friends & family members… including some of Kyle’s family & friends. We are incredibly happy, & appreciate all the love we’ve been shown.

May you all find your sunshine.
