5 Mindsets All Successful People Have

Know your goals

Success is such a vague term. Success for one person can mean a totally different thing to another. That is why goals are so important. They are not just bullet points on a piece of paper, they are the beacons that will keep you on the right track.

Once you know the big goals that you are headed toward, it would be much easier to concoct a detailed plan to get there. Breaking down your big goals into smaller ones is a great way to manage your targets better. And there’s nothing more rewarding than when you’ve reached a goal. And while doing that with a big goal can take a long time, small goals are easier to tackle, and thus, you feel more motivated along the way.

Say, your goal is to have a promotion. Then the first sensible step will be to work on your weaknesses. Set yourself a deadline on when you think you can conquer that weakness and map out a specific plan for it. As time passes, you will find yourself closer to the person you want to become.

Keep a growth mindset

When you have a fixed mindset, it’s hard to learn new things and adapt to new situations, which can be detrimental to your future prospects. No one is ever too good to learn new things. The moment you stop growing, someone will surpass you.

This is why you need a growth mindset. A growth mindset means that you are open to changes, you are willing to take challenges and adapt. When someone with a growth mindset faces challenges, instead of dreading it, he will welcome it. He is not phased by new circumstances and is always ready to adapt.

A growth mindset knows that it will be a learner for the rest of its life. Never stop learning, never settle for what is comfortable!

Routine makes perfect

Routine is such a powerful tool. Though it’s not easy to build, once you’ve got a hang of it, it is undoubtedly the best way for you to reach your goals. Routines ease the edges of seemingly intimidating tasks. Things you have always thought that you will never be able to manage like practicing work life balance, or setting time to learn new skills can actually be achieved through simple breaking down of goals and being consistent.

If what you’re trying to achieve is having a healthier work-life balance, maybe start small with tasks like: waking up early, cutting down on caffeine in-take, walking to work, working out. These things, though small, can be unthinkable to a lot of people. The key here is to do them everyday and make them your daily routine. Once they are in rotation, you can just run on auto pilot and not have to worry about them anymore.

The higher the risk the higher the return

We did talk before about having a growth mindset where you are not afraid of learning new things. But indeed, anything that is new and challenging can be intimidating to us at first. These things can be totally out of our comfort zone and we don’t have a clue how to face it.

Remember, you can only learn when you are outside of your comfort zone. It is only when you are challenged that any progress at all can take place. So even if it’s scary, don’t back down when you encounter risk. The higher the risk, the bigger the reward anyway. You have to push yourself so you can grow.

Embrace your mistakes

The reason why risks are so dreadful is because most of us are perfectionists and we’re afraid to make mistakes. I mean, tossing yourself in bed at night thinking about the mistakes you have made 10 years ago is definitely not fun. But you have to let go of that fear and let yourself learn from your own mistakes.

As a matter of fact, you will actually learn more from your mistakes than when you just ace the assignment with a stroke of luck. You pulled through, but you didn’t know how you did it, you did get to learn how.

So instead of running away from taking risks, fearing mistakes, stop making excuses and face your challenges head on. You may fail, but you’ll learn. And after you’ve learned enough, you’ll know exactly what to do to not make the same mistakes again.
